It’s a truly noble act to work towards improving the lives of animals, whether they’re living in the wild or under our care as pets. When we see animals in danger and need of help, it’s natural for us to feel compelled to step in and offer assistance. Recently, a remarkable woman working at the Lucky Dog Refuge in Stanford City, Connecticut, USA came across a dog in a very sorry state and was moved to take action.
In the midst of the woods, a fluffy creature named Halo was found curled up. It was evident that the little creature was blind as her eyes lacked any sight. To make matters worse, she was also starving. However, thanks to the kindness of the group, Halo could now start a fresh and renewed life.
Halo was looking quite sad and downhearted, but with a little bit of pampering, heaps of love, attention and a delicious ice cream treat from McDonald’s, the pup perked up and began to reveal her lively and joyful personality.
Local reports reveal that the creature was abandoned in the woods with no sustenance, likely awaiting her demise to end her misery. Her eyes indicate her blindness as they appear opaque and whitish. In an attempt to invigorate her spirits, a volunteer offered her food so that she could stand on her own and depart with them. Upon waking up, it became evident that Halo was emaciated, with her bones and skin visible.
The team that rescued her bestowed upon her the name Halo, meaning “aureola” in Spanish. After much consideration, they came to the difficult conclusion that if it wasn’t possible to give her a chance at a better life, they would humanely put her to sleep. The poor animal had already endured so much suffering, and they didn’t want to subject her to any more pain. As one of the rescuers said, “We ultimately decided that if it wasn’t worth it for her to suffer any longer, we would have to make the difficult decision to euthanize her.”
Halo’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Despite her fragile state of health, she slowly but surely began to make progress, and eventually had the potential to lead a normal life. She was taken in by a shelter where she received the medical treatment she needed, and according to her adoptive mother Stacey, everyone there was eager to help Halo regain her strength. Once she started to regain mobility, Halo sought comfort in Stacey’s embrace, enjoying the feeling of warmth and affection that she had been missing for so long. Hugs, kisses, and gentle caresses brought a newfound happiness to both of them.
According to her caregiver, the visually impaired dog is improving well and displaying qualities of playfulness, affection, and intelligence. She even enjoys indulging in ice cream while lounging on her preferred sofa. This development is heartening for those who hold a fondness for animals. Witnessing the efforts of selfless volunteers committed to the wellbeing of creatures brings joy and amazement.
