Benki found himself abandoned in Lara, Venezuela on November 5th, grappling with the challenges of blindness and the loss of his right hind leg.
In addition to these hardships, Benki displayed signs indicative of potential sexual abuse, a sadly common plight for male canines from puppy farms or mills, where parent dogs are discarded once they're no longer deemed profitable. In Benki's case, deliberate measures were taken to blind him and, tragically, he lost his right hind leg after an unknown impact.
Thankfully, X-rays revealed no serious internal injuries, but the emotional toll on Benki was significant, raising valid concerns. Unaccustomed to his newfound blindness, he quickly became disoriented and emitted distressing wails, prompting the veterinarian to employ extensive conversation in an attempt to calm him.
On a positive note, Benki, despite his challenging circumstances, has emerged as a resilient and intelligent dog. Following a week in a refuge, his emotional well-being experienced notable improvement, and he successfully learned to discern speech direction after approximately 10 days of training.
Today, he stands as a perfectly normal dog, albeit having gained weight due to a lack of exercise. His foster parent is dedicated to fostering a sense of security, encouraging him to navigate shelter stairs and showering him with limitless love.
While there has been progress, Benki is still on the journey to finding a new, permanent, and loving home.
